Beers – 3/5/16

Black Brewing – BaoBao Milk Stout

Founders – Stout

Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat NV – Maredsous 8 Brune Dubbel

Nail – Huge Dunn Imperial Brown Ale

Feral Brewing – BORIS Russian Imperial Stout

Brauerei Heller-Trum / Schlenkerla – Fastenbier Rauchbier

The Black Brewing milk Stout is very sessionable, Bitter in a good way from the malt and the hops, but balanced and not overbearing, actually quite light for the style. And made in Margaret River, nice.

The Maredsous 8 was good, it was quite high on the alcohol front as far as taste. Not bad, but not the best for the style, as far as my tastes.

The Fastenbier is interesting, a lighter actual beer, but still with the same smokeyness as their Urbock and such.

The rest are good and most likely reviewed previously

Beer – 20/7/16 – Otra Vez

IMAG0192
After 2 of the Ace of Base Saisons, reviewed in the previous post...8.5ABV…gotta stop

More Otra Vez.

How GOOD is this beer? I would drink this as a regular sessional always if it was available at my local.
I HOPE to hell its still available here during summer.

Looks like S.N. have this listed as a Year Round beer, thank the Gods.

Beer – 20/7/16 – Feral Brewing Ace of Base Imperial India Saison

Feral Brewing Brewpub series – Ace of Base Imperial India Saison

Made with Sorachi hops, which I love – Their Golden Ace Belgian Pale Ale, which used Sorachi, was one of the first beers to really turn me on to Hops [ the others being Sierra Nevadas Torpedo and Little Creatures Pale Ale]

This is…Its definitely a Saison, just amped up a fair bit. Smells fruity-yeasty, peppery, crushed ants, a bit of citrus…Its a cloudy, light yellow colour, Big head on pouring and zero to minimal lacing. A light fizz for carbonation.

The taste, again peppery, strong saison yeast character, not much of the citrusy-lemony Sorachi I love, but its in there at a low level, and it definitely comes through in the hops bitterness.

This reminds me a lot of the first Saison I tried to make, looks like I didnt fuck up at all if this is a saleable beer 😛 haha.

Its NOT BAD, but I really wish it was closer to the classic Golden Ace, what a great beer that was. If you like Saisons, this will give you more Saison in one bottle than you may have ever wanted.

Thanks to the guys at International Beer Shop for keeping a 4 pack aside for me.

Beers 15/7/16

A bunch of regular “go-to’s”, and one very local beer.

The Hefe and Dunkel are both awesome beers. What else can be said about Weihenstephaner.

The Sail and Anchor Amber Ale was really damn good. Fresh, malty, slightly sweet, light bitterness, the grain really present. Very nice.

And two regulars: Coopers Best Extra Stout is just a good stout. Bitter, roasty grain, but not too sharp, a nice dark beer. The Guinness Extra Stout seems to be everywhere right now and is also very good. Similar to the Coopers stout in many ways, but it has a slight sour note to it, which I really like.

Beer – 6/5/16

Cabbages & Kings, Imperial Oyster and Horopito Stout. 12% 650ml.

This is intense, the alcohol is very apparent, the mouthfeel is viscous and rich, the taste is intense dark malt, dark chocolate, and a hint of smoke, peppery – Horopito is a native NZ pepper plant -, a little briny.

A review I made later in the night:

It was very damn good, a sipper, very intense, viscous, rich, peppery, a bit smokey and briny. I drank it over about 2 and a bit hours. 650ml. Only thing similar I have had has been barleywines. This was also about a year old – June 2015 i think was the last batch made – so had aged a bit and rounded out, which is a good thing, even preferable, for any dark strong style beer, which are, obviously, more malt forward.
